精品英語(yǔ)素材--端午節(jié)介紹（托福雅思口語(yǔ)寫作必備）

在之前的雅思/托福口語(yǔ)考試中，當(dāng)考官問(wèn)到"What is your favorite festival?"、"How do you celebrate it?"、"What are the customs/traditions of this festival?"等題的時(shí)候，你們答案是不是都是千篇一律的Spring Festival？

今天，留學(xué)監(jiān)理網(wǎng)的老師就帶大家學(xué)習(xí)一下新技能，我們來(lái)聊聊端午節(jié)的那些事。

首先，我們先來(lái)談?wù)劧宋绻?jié)在英語(yǔ)中的兩種表達(dá)方式：Dragon Boat Festival V.S. Double Fifth Day。同一個(gè)節(jié)日為什么會(huì)有兩個(gè)名字呢？Dragon Boat Festival來(lái)自于端午節(jié)的民俗--劃龍舟--dragon boat race；而Double Fifth Day則來(lái)自于端午節(jié)的時(shí)間--農(nóng)歷五月初五--第五個(gè)月的第五天，所以是“double fifth”；與之類似的是重陽(yáng)節(jié)被翻譯成Double Ninth Day。

Talking about Duanwu Festival, there are 2 different ways to call it. The first one is Dragon Boat Festival as dragon boat race is an important custom throughout China. Another one is Double Fifth Day because Duanwu Festival is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese Lunar Calendar. 

紀(jì)念屈原：

Qu Yuan , an honest minister who is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in a river. Qu was a minister of the State of Chu situated in present-day Hunan and Hubei provinces, during theWarring States Period(475-221BC)（戰(zhàn)國(guó)時(shí)期）. He was upright, loyal and highly esteemed for his wise counsel that brought peace and prosperity to the state. However, when a dishonest and corrupt prince vilified Qu, he was disgraced and dismissed from office. Realizing that the country was now in the hands of evil and corrupt officials, Qu grabbed a large stone and leapt into the Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth month. Nearby fishermen rushed over to try and save him but were unable to even recover his body. Thereafter, the state declined and was eventually conquered by the State of Qin.

接下來(lái)，我們來(lái)學(xué)習(xí)一下端午節(jié)都有哪些風(fēng)俗習(xí)慣。Let’s learn some customs and folklore on Dragon Boat Festival. 

Eating Zongzi:

Most people eat zongzi on Dragon Boat Festival. Zongzi is made from sticky rice, beans, lotus seeds, chestnuts, meat and the golden yolk of a salted duck egg. People put all the ingredients together and wrap it with bamboo leaves. Then zongzi is put into water and boiled for hours. China is a big country and people’s eating habit varies. In the southern part of China people prefer salty flavor zongzi; in the northern part, sweet. Some journalists even interview the average people on the street what flavor is their favorite; and you can always tell where they come from according to their response. 

Dragon Boat Race:

The dragon-boat races symbolize the many attempts to rescue and recover Qu's body. A typical dragon boat ranges from 50-100 feet in length, with a beam of about 5.5 feet, accommodating two paddlers seated side by side.

A wooden dragon head is attached at the bow/船頭, and a dragon tail at the stern/船尾. A banner/旗幟 hoisted on a pole/桿 is also fastened at the stern and the hull/船體 is decorated with red, green and blue scales edged in gold. In the center of the boat is a canopied shrine behind which the drummers/鼓手, gong beaters/敲鑼的人 and cymbal players/敲鐃鈸的人 are seated to set the pace for the paddlers/槳手. There are also men positioned at the bow to set off firecrackers. All of the noise and pageantry creates an atmosphere of gaiety and excitement for the participants and spectators alike. The races are held among different clans, villages and organizations, and the winners are awarded medals, banners, jugs of wine and festive meals.
