Question 1
Do you write many letters or emails?
1. Well, as far as I can remember, I’ve never written any letters, and I hardly ever send emails except when I hand in/submit my assignment/homework to my professor in college.
2. Yes, I usually write e-mails. It is really convenient to use. Especially, when you need to write a long content to specify some things. Besides, Unlike letters, it can be sent and received quickly.
3. Yes, I almost write emails for my clients as part of my job on a daily basis.

Question 2
Do you prefer to write letters by hand or to use a computer? / Which do you more often write, emails or letters?
1. Um… well, if I had to choose, then maybe I would send an email, ‘cause it’s much more convenient than writing a letter by hand. But actually, it’s not likely to happen, ‘cause if I really need to send messages to others, I would just contact them on one of those chatting applications in my phone.
2. Well, it depends. If I was writing a letter for my sweetheart it would be hand written. I feel there is something more personal about it. I would send it and maybe put heart-shaped paper works. And I feel the time you wait for a response is very special, like sweet pain. But otherwise I use email. It's just faster. If you are far from home then you wouldn't want to wait for 2 weeks for a letter. If it hadn't been for the long wait I would write letters. Waiting for people other than sweethearts is not fun.
Question 3
Which do you more often write, emails or letters?
I send emails everyday but I only use a pen and paper to write letters to my grandparents who don't have a computer. Other than that, I e-mail everyone.
Question 4
How often do you write an email or a letter?
1. I guess, once or twice every semester. Most of my professors prefer handwritten homework, so I don’t send them emails that often.
2. Actually, it is uncommon for me to write letters. But I would also write some postcards to my friends when I travel to some tourist attractions.
Question 5
What are the differences between emails and letters?
1. In my opinion, letters are more personal and emotional, we have an old Chinese saying, when you open a letter and see the handwriting, it’s like you actually see the person who wrote it. That’s why few people would send a love letter by email. And as for emails, they are more convenient to send, I mean, you don’t need to go to the post office or buy any stamps, as long as you have Internet access, the people you write to will receive your email immediately, which is time-saving.
2. Well, between the two, a letter is printed or handwritten on actual paper and sent through the mail while an email is typed on a computer, tablet or smartphone and sent electronically. While emails have become a more popular way of communication for individuals and businesses, traditional letters still have a place in today’s modern, tech-oriented society.
Question 6
Is it hard to think of what to write?
1. Well, it’s not that hard for me. Like I said, I just send emails to my professors to hand in my homework, so every time I just write ‘Dear Professor blah, blah, the attachment is my homework you assigned, thanks for your time and have a nice day’, things like that.
2. Normally it seems like a daily routine for me to write emails to my clients about how to use the system; but if they complain to me about the poor user experience, I sometimes really find myself getting stuck in how to explain everything to cool them down.
Question 7
What kind(s) of letter/email do you think is (are) the hardest to write?
1. Um… I guess letters of apology must be hard to write, not that I’ve written one. Oh, and love letters must be hard to write as well, ‘cause when you write a letter like that, you need to write about all the reasons you adore the person. Plus, things would be awkward if the person doesn’t love you back / feel the same way / the feeling is not mutual.
2. Break up letter is the hardest to write. Face to face hurts but writing a break up letter is hard to get started also it is hard to end. Also, feeling is hard to express in logic. Moreover, waiting for a reply is miserable.
Question 8
How do you feel when you receive a letter or email?
1. Um, I’ve only received one letter so far in my life, which is the one I got from my cousin before my college entrance exam. I was so happy when I opened the letter, ‘cause she encouraged me and calmed me down before the exam.
2. I would be feeling excited to receive a letter or email from other because the sender has spent time writing it. Especially when someone writes to me to appreciate me or compliment me about my responsible work.
Question 9
What kinds of e-mail(or letter) you received that make you feel happy?
I will be ecstatic when I receive a handwritten letter. Most people don't receive personal letters anymore due to technology, so I am sure the letter will lighten my day up.
Question 10
Do you think people will still write letters in the future?
1. Yeah, some people might think that letters seem to be a thing of the past, but personally I believe that writing letters represents an emotional connection. It’s more sincere, and it’s the fact that few people are still doing it that makes it all the more precious.
2. I believe that as a major method of communication between people, letter writing has a vast and interesting history; besides, handwritten letters are personal. They show the receiver that someone has spent time and effort in communicating with them. They are a way of connecting two people that cannot be achieved through the impersonal use of texts or instant messages. Therefore, I feel that the handwriting letters are irreplaceable in the future.
