Outdoor Activities

1. Do you like outdoor activities?你喜歡戶(hù)外活動(dòng)嗎？

Sure, I do like all kinds of outdoor activities. Exercising outdoors, I think, is really a good way for people to get closer to the nature and release their daily pressure. In fact, people can sometimes get really busy dealing with their life chaos. Outdoor activities can help them keep fit both in physics and in minds.

2. What outdoor activities do you like to do? Why?你喜歡什么戶(hù)外活動(dòng)？為什么？

I like to go hiking and play badminton during my spare time. I think hiking is good for my health and can help me get closer to the nature. Playing badminton though, is good for me to stretch my arms after a whole day of hard work.

3. How much time do you spend outdoors every week?你每周在戶(hù)外花費(fèi)多長(zhǎng)時(shí)間？

It's not a certain thing though. When there’s no test or homework I’d have to worry about, I could go outside a lot, such as going shopping or doing exercise in the park near my home. But sometimes when I get too busy with, say, preparing for a test, I could only stay at home for most of the time in a week.

4. Do people in your country prefer spending time indoors to spending time outdoors?你們國(guó)家的人喜歡待在室內(nèi)還是待在室外?

Well, I guess it’s fair to say that, it’s more usual for people in my country to go outside and take some time to relax themselves on their days off. For instance, people in my hometown love to go outside, most probably to a park, on sunny days. They’d usually spend a whole afternoon chatting with their friends, with the company with several cups of nice tea.

Music

1. Do you like music?你喜歡音樂(lè)嗎？

If I say I ‘like’ music, that would be the biggest understatement ever. I love it, not any particular music genre though, my taste of music is actually quite mixed up. I think music expresses various kinds of human souls, which I like very much.

2. What's your favorite kind of music?你最喜歡哪種音樂(lè)？

I am a rock buff and like all kinds of rock music, say, metal core, industrial metal, classic rock and melodic death metal. My favorite rock band is Oasis. They have been helping me get through my tough days ever since I first listened to their songs.

3. What kind of music is popular in China?中國(guó)流行什么樣的音樂(lè)？

Well I guess it’s fair to say that pop music is quite popular among Chinese people. There are many famous singers who specialize at pop music in China, attracting millions of fans at all ages. My favorite pop singer is Jay Chow, whose music career has long been a huge success ever since his first debut in Taiwan.

4. Have you ever learned to play a musical instrument?你學(xué)過(guò)演奏樂(lè)器嗎？

Yes, I once learned to play the harp when I was little. My mother taught me how to play the harp since she is a music teacher specializing at this musical instrument. But later, I had to give it up due to my heavy studying burden. I’d like to learn it again in the future if possible.

5. Which instrument do you prefer to learn, the piano or the violin?你喜歡學(xué)哪種樂(lè)器，鋼琴還是小提琴？

Well, to be frank, I’d love to try both but would prefer to learn the piano first. I guess it may be a bit easier starting off, and also, it’s an important jumping off point to learn any other musical instruments in the future.

6. Do you think it’s important for children to learn a musical instrument?你認(rèn)為孩子學(xué)習(xí)一種樂(lè)器重要嗎？

Yes, I believe it is quite important. For I think that learning to play a musical instrument can teach children the following two things, perseverance and discipline, which I believe to be quite important. With music, they can also learn to appreciate life better.

In the university, various after-class activities are full of students’ life. Some interesting and hilarious things also appear in these activities. However, I want to tell you something interesting happened in class.

It happened in the English writing class in the first year of my college. The teacher of our English writing class was a British man over 60. He was strict with our homework and attendance of this class because of his high academic quality, but his humor also causes a burst of laughter during the class. Therefore, every classmate loved him but also was afraid of him, except for one guy. This guy was a little loose. Although he attended every class and handed every piece of homework, he always slept in the class and the quality of his homework was not very satisfying. The teacher talked to him many times but he never changed his behavior.

One day, a usual writing class on Wednesday, this guy fell asleep again in the class. Mostly, he had slept for 10 to 20 minutes then continued to listen to the teacher. However, he had slept for over 30 minutes in this class and no sign of awakening appeared. The teacher was pretty angry and everyone held the breath to see what would happen. Out of everyone’s surprise, the teacher didn’t shout loud or make noise to wake him up. He just took a bottle of water and pour slight water onto the guy’s head to frighten him to awaken. At the moment the guy got thrilled of this mischief, everyone burst into laugh.

The mischief from our writing teacher is not just an amusement for me. It shows his wisdom of teaching. When students make mistakes, the condemn or rebuke is never his first option to treat students. The mild way that makes them realize their mistakes sometimes is more efficient than the hard way.
