Help communities improve water sanitation or create sustainable cities promising a hightened quality of life with the dual-degree BEng+BA five-year program in Engineering & International Development Studies.

You’ll also have the option to add a development internship to further strengthen your international resumé.

Objectives of the dual degree program

Train future engineers so that they are better able to understand the complexities associated with global project management

Enhance understanding of sustainable development

Help students integrate social, environmental, political and economic contexts in the application of engineering

Students have the opportunity to choose from the following engineering areas of specialization, which have been developed to reflect a modern view of engineering and to teach the skills needed in the engineering profession today, with an ambition to graduate a new generation of entrepreneurial engineers with a social conscience.

International Internship Program

Students in the E&IDS program are encouraged to consider a not-for-credit developmental-related internship position in the summer after third year to gain experience in a practical context. York International will provide logistical and financial support for all students in the program. Internships will be arranged in a wide variety of government and non-government organizations in Canada and abroad.
