Help children learn and grow

In this program, you’ll learn how to plan, teach and assess children, and how to integrate ICT in your teaching.

You will develop curriculum knowledge in English, mathematics, science, technology, arts, health and physical education, history, and geography. From your first year, you’ll complete 90 days of supervised professional experience in local schools, and rural and remote settings if desired.

You will develop valuable skills and experiences through participation in Wider Field Experiences where you engage with community projects and work with children, families and communities.

In this program you will:

Complete 90 days of supervised teaching
Complete a subject focus in science or English/literacy
Work with children and families in community projects
Attend professional development seminars to enhance your knowledge
Complete a minimum of 30 hours Wider Field Experience

Prior to commencing, students will need to:

Complete an online questionnaire to demonstrate your motivation for teaching
Submit a 600-1,000-word personal statement on why you would make a great teacher
Obtain a Blue Card before starting supervised professional experience

External requirement, post admission:

Complete and pass the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education prior to graduating
Complete and pass the Graduate Teacher Performance Assessment at the conclusion of their final SPE placement

Students must have International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma - successful completion with minimum score of 24 (minimum score of 4 in each of six subjects). Students must have completed a minimum level of education similar to successful completion of Australian Year 12 with good grades. English Language Requirements accepted: IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.0 with minimum 5.5 in each subtest; TOEFL: Paper-based: Overall score of 550 with minimum essay score of 4; TOEFL: Internet-based: Overall score of 76 with minimum score of 18 for writing; Pearson Test of English: Overall score of 50 with no communicative score less than 50; CAE/CPE: Overall score of 169 or above with no less than 162 in each skill; ISLPR (IIAA accredited)- (previously ASLPR): 3 in all four skill areas; Global Assessment Certificate (GAC): Successful completion with a minimum GPA of 2.3; USC's English for Academic Purposes (EAP) 2: Successful completion; USC's English for Academic Purposes (EAP) 3: Successful completion.
