A Bachelor of Natural Environment and Wilderness Studies gives your a broad, multi-disciplinary approach to understanding and tackling environmental issues, and develops your skills to build a better future for us all.

Nature, and especially wild nature, has become increasingly important for human mental and physical well-being. At the same time, it is fast being disappeared on the planet as a whole. An ability to think critically and creatively across disciplines, in the intersection between the nature and human society, is vital for informing the management, protection, and use of the natural environment.

There is also no better place to study the natural environment and wilderness than Tasmania. Our state is a living laboratory, with a fifth of it classed as world heritage areas, and half as protected areas, plus it's all accessible straight from the campus door. However, it's also not just our natural assets to immerse yourself in, with Tasmania also offering a vibrant scope of urban, social, and environmental geography to engage with, learn from, and live amongst.

As a wide, interdisciplinary degree, you’ll have a wealth of areas to contribute your skills and experience, which are in high demand world-wide as every country has a natural environment which must be managed and protected.

Course objectives

This degree combines a breadth of environmental related disciplines plus gives you the option to widen your studies and include other approaches to the study of wilderness and natural environments.

It is a practical, field science focused degree, providing many options related to the management and understanding of the natural environment as well as geography and environmental policy.

The structure of the degree ensures that you gain a broad understanding of the field, while being able to specialise in areas of interest.
