Acquire the nutritional knowledge and skills to improve the health and well-being of people across the human lifecycle. Nutrition Science focuses on how food plays a vital role in our overall health and the management and prevention of disease.

Our faculty are all Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) with years of experience in the real-world application of evidence-based science and research in a variety of settings.

The undergraduate program in Nutrition Science provides a solid foundation for career opportunities in business and industry, food and nutrition management, public policy, and public health positions. The degree’s curriculum also offers the flexibility to fulfill prerequisite coursework for graduate education in almost any health-related professional program such as medicine, physician assistant studies, dental medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or public health.

Nutrition Science graduates will be able to implement the knowledge and skills learned in the program to various positions within the food industry, public policy, public health, and research. This may include working on food and nutrition labeling laws, creating better food products and supplements and helping to educate others about the importance of nutrition. In addition, graduates of the Nutrition Science program will be prepared to further their education in the health professions including professional graduate programs in medicine, physical assistant studies, and dentistry among others.

Prospective students who have not earned college credits since graduating from high school with a diploma or GED should consult this section for information on admission to the University of Pittsburgh. For the Pittsburgh campus, a 100 or higher TOEFL composite score with sub scores of 21 or higher is considered competitive, or a 7.0 IELTS with sub scores of 6.0 or higher.
