This is the main Masters level research program for postgraduate students in the Faculty of Medicine. Candidates must demonstrate ability to undertake research by the submission of a thesis embodying the results of an original investigation.

The degree of Master of Science by research may be awarded by the Council on the recommendation of the Higher Degree Committee of the appropriate faculty (hereinafter referred to as the Committee) to a candidate who has demonstrated ability to undertake research by the submission of a thesis embodying the results of an original investigation.

The School of Women's and Children's Health offers a diverse range of Masters by Research and PhD programs to local and international candidates. Students can develop their research career under internationally recognised researchers in many sub-specialties of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Perinatal & Reproductive epidemiology and statistics, and based at Children's Cancer Institute Australia. Research programs can be undertaken in clinical, laboratory or epidemiological studies.

The minimum academic entry requirement for the MPhil is: An undergraduate degree AND A coursework Master’s degree in a related discipline* with an overall grade of Distinction (75 per cent) or higher.
