Students in the Native American Studies program will study how the Native perspective relates to disciplines involving art, law, philosophy, politics, history, gender studies, ecology, business, customs, and language. All of the classes in Native American Studies are taught from the Native viewpoint - this makes our program one of the most sought after programs in Canada. As an Education major a student develops a strong knowledge base in the subject area they intend to teach. They also receive in-depth preparation in how to teach, including both general and subject area instructional methods. The following degrees can be combined with the Bachelor of Education (Native Education) degree:

Combined Degrees – B.A / B.Ed:
Students may meet the Native Education major requirements by completing the major in Native American Studies or the General Major in the Social Sciences (at least 7 courses in Native American Studies and 4 courses in each of two other disciplines in the Social Sciences).

Senior Secondary School Certificate of Graduation and an average grade of 72% or higher (where 60% is the passing grade). English Language Requirements: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) taken within the last two years, with minimum scores of: 550 on the paper-based TOEFL and 4.0 on the Test of Written English (TWE); or 80 on the internet-based TOEFL (iBT), with minimum scores of 16 in each of Listening, Reading, and Speaking, and a minimum score of 18 in Writing; Academic International English Languages Testing System (IELTS) test, taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 6.0, and a minimum 6.0 in each band; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic score, taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 54; Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment, taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 60, with a minimum 50 in each of Listening, Reading, and Speaking, and 60 in Writing; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE), with a minimum score of ‘C’; Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE), with a minimum score of at ‘C’; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB), with a minimum overall score of 80, with a minimum 76 in each component, including the Speaking test.
