The Foundation Degree in Graphic Design and Illustration develops your graphics and illustration techniques and visual communication whilst equipping you with the specific employability skills to help you to get ahead and become a successful graphic designer / illustrator. You will undertake a range of client briefs and personal design projects to communicate with an audience, developing your critical awareness and visual language along the way. The course has excellent links to the creative industry and you will be using these from the outset by creating public exhibitions, working with artists and designers, gallerists and curators: selling your work, promoting yourself, visiting exhibitions, interviewing practitioners and organisations, and developing media campaigns.We welcome applications from individuals who have previously studied Art, Graphics, Illustration, Print, Digital and Photography.There is an emphasis towards practical workshop learning, which underpin both context and industry relevant topics. The lecture programme will impart the necessary principles and concepts, with seminars considering practical examples of the principles and concepts. Group work will allow students to develop their research, communication and teamwork skills.The Foundation Degree is now housed in our brand new ￡60m Quarry Hill campus with state of the art facilities. We have brand new studios, exhibition spaces, state of the art student work zones, and, importantly, a building which is exclusively for our degree students. The new college building sits in the Cultural Quarter of Leeds alongside the BBC, Leeds College of Music (which is also part of the Luminate Education Group, along with Leeds City College), Northern Ballet, and Leeds Playhouse, currently undergoing redevelopment. Between the sites, a shared space is in the process of being created, which will open up access to buildings and amenities..
