The BA (Hons) Primary Education is an important programme for the university, typically recruiting well and having an important role within the Institute of Education in terms of priorities, strategy and practice. The proposed degree offers a programme that aims to consolidate many of the pre-existing quality elements from the current iteration, whilst also looking to develop aspects where the team has received feedback, and introducing new ideas that are innovative and will appeal to all year groups. The programme is held together by a number of over-lapping threads, including educational theory, practice in primary, the nature of curriculum, reflection and reflexivity, wider contextualising issues factors, research and ethics. Learning builds sequentially with the threads holding together key aspects of the learning. Alongside the content-focussed learning sits wider and more diffuse aspects of learning, which are enhanced through the approach to pedagogy and assessment; among other things, this learning includes development of digital competence, enhanced oral and written communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and seeking creative solutions. The first year programme of study offers a diverse range of modules that will excite and stimulate students, giving them the chance to develop understanding of the core principles and theories that underpin learning throughout. In the immersive module An Introduction to Education, for instance, students begin grappling with big questions about the nature and purpose of education, the value and controversies surrounding curriculum, historical perspectives on education, and why politics matters in education. Later modules will unpick many of these ideas, revealing their complexity and giving students a chance to understand these issues in context/practice. Teaching and assessment methods are intended to be diverse, and support students’ holistic development **Why this course at Marjon?**?
