The multimedia journalism major focuses on training you to become an effective storyteller.

You will receive hands-on experience with the tools and techniques of photography, cinema, audio and video production, while also learning to be a critical-thinker and an excellent writer. You will create multimedia projects using all of the multimedia elements required of today’s journalists. You will learn how to combine words with images, video and sound to tell journalistic stories.

Career paths

Upon graduation from the School of Media and Strategic Communications are able to meet the diverse communications needs of any media outlet. You are able to create and maintain a professional portfolio that is turned in as part of the senior capstone course. The professional portfolio is a critical tool for you to showcase your media abilities to future employers. SMSC graduates enjoy successful careers in a variety of fields: Multimedia Reporter; Multimedia Director; Multimedia Producer; Audio Engineer; Media Coordinator; Sports Information Director; Sports Reporter; Sports Writer; Sports Radio Host; Copywriter; Art Director; Event Coordinator; Public Relations; Advertising; Communications Coordinator; Account Manager.

Opportunities: Multimedia Journalism allows you to gain hands-on experience by writing for the O’Colly newspaper; Creating, producing and editing OStateTV or Pete’s Corner.
