American Studies at Oklahoma State University offers you a systematic understanding of the culture and society of the United States of America from a multidisciplinary perspective.

Students interested in identity, social power and social responsibility will connect with teachers and peers in a supportive environment in our small, discussion-based classes.

Our curriculum allows you to tailor your coursework from a range of courses and cultural studies before completing the two required courses: Theories and Methods of American Studies and Senior Seminar in American Studies.

Career paths

Instead of preparing you for a single occupation, American Studies coursework prepares students to think, explore, and put knowledge into practice. Our graduates enjoy successful careers in a variety of fields: Education; The Law; Public Relations; Non-Profit Management; Social Work; Journalism and Communications.

Highlights

Courses like Introduction to Digital Humanities, Native American Arts and Culture, and Tulsa Public Cultures take students into local communities to network with artists, cultural institutions, and non-profit organizations.

American Studies students have the option of taking an internship related to the humanistic or social scientific study of American culture, politics, and society.
