With Massey’s Bachelor of Sport and Exercise (Exercise Prescription) you’ll be equipped with the knowledge and skills to develop, implement and assess exercise programmes for sport performance enhancement, health enhancement, and rehabilitation from injury and disease.

The Bachelor of Sport and Exercise (Exercise Prescription) combines theory and practical application. You’ll learn about a range of disciplines. These include body function and movement, sport nutrition, and exercise psychology. You’ll also get an insight into fitness assessment and exercise prescription.

These lay the foundations for enhancing health, wellbeing and performance in the general, compromised and athletic populations.

Real-world experience

The sport and exercise practicum will give you experience working with a variety of individuals in a real-world setting. That includes those with various health conditions and athletes wanting to improve their performance. This will test your fitness assessment, exercise technique and programming skills, while preparing you for entry into the workforce.

Wide range of courses

You will take a set of compulsory courses common to all the BSpEx majors, then select courses specific to Exercise Prescription. You also have room for some optional courses (electives).

The Bachelor of Sport and Exercise (Exercise Prescription) will equip you for a challenging and rewarding career helping people achieve their goals through exercise. The combination of general, compromised health and athlete prescription is an excellent preparation for a career in the health, fitness and sport industry.

The minimum academic entry requirement is successful completion of a qualification equivalent to the New Zealand Year 13 - NCEA Level 3 University Entrance. Cambridge International Examination or Advanced International Certificate of Education (CIE /AICE) A or AS levels, a minimum of 120 points from approved syllabus group list. And a minimum D grade or better in syllabuses from at least three different in each of at least 3 different syllabus groups (excluding Thinking Skills), as well as an E or better in AS English and a D grade in IGCSE or GCSE Mathematics. Taken in countries other than New Zealand (excluding United Kingdom): 3 A-levels including at least 1 C grade or better. A result in General Studies cannot be included among the 3 on which the application is based. English Language Requirements: IELTS - 6.0 (no band less than 5.5); TOEFL iBT- 80 overall (min 19 in Writing); PTE Academic - 50 Overall (min 42 in communicative skills); Cambridge English - 169.
