This program is designed for practicing teachers with a minimum of one year of experience. The experiences will include working with special needs children within a school setting as well as the regular classroom. The use of the word literacy is intentional. It indicates the program’s commitment to a comprehensive and balanced approach to literacy. Classroom teachers will be prepared to work as reading specialists and manage the literacy program for their work as well as that of classroom teachers in their building.

  • EDUC 657 - Analysis of Reading Data, Instructional Coaching, and Partnerships with Reading Teachers
  • EDUC 659 - Psychological-Educational Testing
  • EDUC 634 - Clinical Experience with Students Experiencing Reading Difficulties: Elementary
  • EDUC 635 - Clinical Experience with Students Experiencing Reading Difficulties: Secondary
  • EDUC 619 - Educator as Action Researcher
  • EDUC 699 - Capstone Experience

Students must have bachelor’s degree for master’s level programs; TOEFL IBT 79 or higher (no sub scores lower than 18). Test date must be within two years of application; DET Score of 105 or higher. Test date must be within one year of application.
