Programme highlights

Become a registered nurse with unique skills to support and enhance Pacific health.

This programme has a strong emphasis on cultural-identity and connections to Pacific and nursing worldviews. Pacific ways of knowing and learning are woven throughout this programme giving you the practical healthcare skills and hands-on clinical experience to work within your community.

Smaller class sizes encourage a sense of family, aiga (Samoan), kopu tangata (Cook Islands), kāinga (Tongan), magafaoa (Niuean), matavuvale(Fijian) and kāiga (Tokelau, Tuvalu) and contributes to life-long connections.

Pacific leaders, communities and organisations work collaboratively with MIT to enable you to form relationships with those in the health sector.

When you graduate, you'll be ready to sit the Nursing Council of New Zealand State Examination and apply for registration as a registered nurse in New Zealand.

Applicants must have successfully completed at least 42 NCEA (or equivalent) credits at Level 3 (including 14 credits in each of two subjects from the NZQA Approved Subjects for University Entrance list); and 8 credits in NCEA English Level 2 (four in reading and four in writing from the NZQA Literacy Requirements for University Entrance list) (or equivalent); and 8 credits in NCEA Mathematics Level 2 (or equivalent);?or Successfully completed at least 72 credits at NCEA (or equivalent) Level 2 including a minimum of 14 credits in each of two subjects and including 8 credits in each of reading/writing and mathematics and including 30 credits achieved at Merit or Excellence;?or Have at least 60 NZQA recognized credits at Level 5 or higher;?or Provide evidence of equivalence through practical, professional or educational experience e.g. three–five years’ full-time work experience (relevant to ICT) they can apply for entry. Evidence of literacy and numeracy will be required. MIT literacy and numeracy assessments are available. English language requirement: IELTS test: Academic score of 6 with no band score lower than 5.5; TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT): Score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE); TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): Score of 60 (with a writing score of 18); PTE (Academic) score of 50.
