Why Study Landscape Architecture at Dalhousie?

When you study Landscape Architecture at Dalhousie's Agricultural Campus in Truro, N.S., you'll learn scientific concepts and horticulture and design principles. Guided by experienced faculty members, you'll also learn how to apply these principles to the creation of innovative, sustainable residential neighbourhoods, parks, conservation areas, historic sites and more.

What will I learn?

Core courses will prepare you for work in professional settings, including the ability to analyze and design projects that meet landscape standards of functionality, construction, efficiency, sustainability and aesthetic value. You'll also develop the skills to build the maps, models, and images used in professional portfolios and presentations. Additional courses will cover topics such as forest management and ecohydrology, helping you develop a thorough understanding of this exciting industry.

Careers and future study:

You'll enter a field where your skills and knowledge are in high demand. The Atlantic Provinces Association of Landscape Architects (APALA) and the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) have both identified a growing need for landscape architects, technicians and their combined services.

Students must have completion of secondary school (Grade 12) or equivalent; A minimum overall average of 70% in five academic Grade 12 courses; A final grade of at least 70% in Grade 12 academic English and any other required subject. English language requirement: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - 237 (computer-based) 90 (iBT) and no lower than 20 in each band; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - 6.5 overall and no lower than 6.0 in each band; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) – 81; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 61 overall and no lower than 50 in each skill; Cambridge English: Advanced - 180 overall and no lower than 170 in each band.
